What Error 490 Means
Error 490 signals an internal fault in the control unit — the display or remote head unit. Error 490 covers a slightly broader range of HMI failures than error 460, including internal communication bus faults within the display housing and configuration data corruption.
Fix Procedure
Step 1: Power Cycle
Remove the main battery for 60 seconds. With the battery out, press and hold the display power button for 10 seconds to drain residual charge. Reinstall the battery and power on.
Step 2: Address the Display Backup Battery
Error 490 is frequently linked to a depleted display backup battery. If your bike has been stored for an extended period without the main battery, the display backup battery may have fully discharged, causing configuration data loss and triggering error 490 on the next startup.
Step 3: Firmware Update
Apply any pending display firmware updates via the eBike Flow app (Smart System) or through a dealer (System2).
Step 4: Display Replacement
Persistent error 490 after all above steps indicates a failed display PCB requiring replacement.
