What Error 450 Means

Error 450 signals that the drive unit firmware has detected a software-level fault — typically a failed assertion, unexpected state machine transition, or memory integrity check failure. Unlike hardware faults, error 450 is often resolvable through a firmware update alone.

Fix Procedure

Step 1: Power Cycle

Remove the battery for 60 seconds and reinstall. Many firmware assertion errors are one-time events that clear after a full reset.

Step 2: Apply Firmware Update

On Smart System bikes, open the eBike Flow app and navigate to System then Software Update. On System2 bikes, a dealer must apply updates via the DiagnosticsTool 3.

Step 3: Dealer Sub-Code Diagnosis

If error 450 persists after a firmware update, the dealer diagnostic tool reads the specific sub-code determining whether the fault is a correctable firmware issue or an underlying hardware condition.
