What Error 426 Means

Error 426 signals that an internal system operation failed to complete within its allocated time window. This can occur during startup self-tests, inter-component authentication handshakes, or firmware operations that took longer than expected. Error 426 is one of the more benign Bosch error codes and typically resolves with a simple power cycle.

Fix Procedure

Step 1: Power Cycle

Remove the battery completely for 30 seconds. Reinstall and power on. Error 426 caused by transient timeout events during startup clears immediately after a full restart.

Step 2: Charge the Battery

A battery at very low charge can cause slow authentication handshakes that exceed the timeout window. Charge to above 50 percent and retest.

Step 3: Check in Cold Temperatures

Error 426 is more common below minus 5 degrees C as battery performance drops and electronic response times increase. Allow the system to warm up before attempting to start in freezing conditions.

Step 4: Dealer Contact

If error 426 appears on every power-on regardless of temperature and battery charge, a system component has an internal timing fault requiring dealer investigation.
