What Error 07 Means

Error 07 on Bafang eBike systems signals that the battery voltage at the controller input exceeded the controllers overvoltage protection threshold. Bafang controllers have a maximum input voltage — typically 60V for 48V systems and 75V for 52V systems. If the battery or charger delivers voltage above this threshold, error 07 is triggered and motor output is disabled to prevent damage to the controller FETs.

Common Causes

  1. Wrong charger voltage — Using a 54.6V charger on a 48V system or a 58.8V charger on a 52V system can push battery voltage above the controller limit during or immediately after charging.
  2. Overcharged battery — A battery charged above its rated maximum voltage (e.g., 54.6V for a standard 48V pack) will produce error 07 when connected to the controller. This typically indicates a charger fault.
  3. 52V battery on 48V controller — A 52V battery (fully charged at 58.8V) connected to a 48V controller (max input typically 60V) operates within limits, but marginal headroom means voltage spikes can trigger error 07.
  4. Regenerative braking spike — On systems with regenerative braking, downhill braking can push battery voltage above the overvoltage threshold momentarily.

Fix Procedure

Step 1: Measure Battery Voltage

Disconnect the battery from the controller and measure its voltage with a multimeter. A fully charged 48V battery should read 54.6V maximum. A fully charged 52V battery should read 58.8V maximum. Any reading significantly above these values indicates an overcharged battery or a failed charger outputting excess voltage.

Step 2: Verify Charger Compatibility

Check the voltage label on your charger output connector and confirm it matches your battery specification. A 48V battery requires a charger labelled 54.6V output. A 52V battery requires a charger labelled 58.8V output.

Step 3: Discharge the Battery Slightly

If the battery is overcharged, discharge it slightly by riding in a low assist level until the display shows approximately 90 percent charge, then retest. An overcharged battery is safe to ride from, it simply needs to drop slightly below the overvoltage threshold.
